What We Do
Association for Monitoring Equal Rights (AMER) carries out monitoring, advocacy, and support activities to ensure the full and equal enjoyment of human rights and freedoms. It strives to contribute to the prevention of all forms of discrimination in Turkey.
Monitoring and Reporting
Monitoring refers to the systematic observation, data collection, and reporting on legislative processes, practices, and policies in order to identify and improve the current state of human rights in a specific region or country. These activities are crucial for gathering information to assess the compliance of responsible institutions and actors—particularly states—with human rights standards.
Through documentation and reporting, the information obtained during monitoring is recorded, verified, and categorized in an accessible and widely distributable manner. During this process, communication is established with rights holders, stakeholders, and other civil society organizations.
Support
Support activities include the provision of legal, practical, and financial assistance to strengthen civil society organizations and to empower individuals and groups subjected to rights violations in their efforts to seek justice more effectively. Among the support mechanisms carried out by ESHİD are: providing legal aid to individuals and/or groups facing discrimination, establishing legal support hotlines to enhance access to justice for persons with disabilities, empowering relevant segments of society through training activities and guidance materials, conducting capacity-building initiatives in collaboration with other civil society organizations, and launching sub-granting programs.
Through its various initiatives, ESHİD offers legal, practical, and financial support to protect and empower rights holders.
Advocacy
Advocacy refers to a range of activities aimed at influencing decision-making mechanisms within public policy-making processes. The active involvement and impact of civil society organizations working from a rights-based perspective in these processes are essential for a democratic society.
ESHİD’s advocacy efforts include strategic litigation, campaigning, lobbying, the preparation of shadow reports, and the protection of human rights defenders. The effective implementation of the principle of equality and the prohibition of discrimination is only possible through the adoption of comprehensive equality laws and principles that address and encompass the various forms and indicators of discrimination and social exclusion.
Within this framework, ESHİD carries out advocacy activities grounded in the principles of non-discrimination and equality, with the aim of influencing decision-making processes related to human rights policies.
